Records broken as massive help deliver Brighton and London Marathons

Working with Grounded Events and The London Marathon Company massive delivered the start areas at both the Brighton and London Marathon. A combined total of over 59,000 runners took part across the two events where massive worked with both marathons for a 5th successive year.

Now in its 8th Year, the Brighton Marathon has become one of England’s most popular marathons with 18,000 people lining up at Preston Park across the weekend. The Brighton Marathon Weekend featured the Cancer Research Kids & Teens Mini Mile Races on the Saturday in Preston Park, with the BM 10K taking place alongside the main event on the 15th April.

“The Brighton Marathon Weekend is one of the highlights of our calendar. There is a great emphasis on family at this event and the Mini Mile event on Saturday is always a great spectacle when the children take centre stage with mum’s, dad’s and grandparents cheering them on,” said James Kemp, Operations Director at massive.

“Having worked on this event for 5 years it is amazing to see how much the marathon has grown in popularity. In 2010 there were 7,500 runners, so to now have over 18,000 highlights the great work Tom and the team at Grounded Events are doing. Being part of the team that is growing and constantly innovating the event is very exciting.”

The following weekend on April 22nd record numbers took part in the London Marathon – with more than 41,000 starting. The massive team worked with the London Marathon Company in delivering the production for the start area in Blackheath, as well as managing the start of the red wave on race day.

“It’s great to work with a likeminded agency in improving participant experience. By staggering the waves this year, we succeeded in giving runners more time and space at the beginning.

To see thousands of supporters lining the starts was equally as pleasing as this adds to the runner’s experience, and the level of support is without doubt unique to the London Marathon. Well done to all those who took part”.
